International Day of the World’s Indigenous People

International Day of the World’s Indigenous People

Women drive indigenous communities and play a critical role in preserving and teaching ancestral knowledge. Women have are integrated into communities as carers of natural resources and holders of scientific knowledge. Many indigenous women also take the lead in defending indigenous lands and advocating for collective rights worldwide.

Despite these women’s crucial role in their communities as breadwinners, caretakers, knowledge keepers, leaders, and human rights defenders, they often suffer from intersecting discrimination based on gender, class, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status.
