Observing the Breath

One simple pattern we use during at 2:50 is to sit quietly and observe our breathing. The breathing is a natural intelligence pattern that happens whether or not we are aware of it. Observing and remaining aware of the breath for a sustained period on a regular basis allows us to glimpse a natural process as it happens right here within our own bodies. Once we have this practice, we can use breath observation anywhere to instantaneously raise self awareness and grow natural intelligence.

Sensing the Body

Another tried and true practice for accessing our natural intelligence is to sense the body. Our bodies produce sensations as they manage biological processes and adjust to the environment. We become more present when we stop to notice. We may start at the top of the head and use our minds eye to slowly scan down the body and back up again during the ten minutes. Outside of @2:50, use this habit pattern to meet acute stress in the environment. A quick body scan grounds and takes the edge off.

Just Resting

In today’s environments we often don’t have enough quality rest. Observing 10 minutes at 2:50 pm each day gives us a time to simply sit back, relax, close our eyes, and rest our attention. @2:50 gives us permission and a container to take pause. Knowing how to normalize silence and rest together is a vital skill. Once we have this individual practice, we can extend it out to the groups and systems we work in to bring more vitality to our days.

People join @2:50 in many ways. Some walk or sit outside. Others use the time to sketch or journal. Some practice their own mindfulness or meditations, or get in a quick nap! It’s less about what we do and more about our repeating and doing it together.
