When you meditate with your eyes open, keep a gentle, relaxed gaze. Rather than closing the eyes fully, just keep them gently open. With partially open eyes, you can connect with your environment in new ways.  This may help you integrate your mindul practice with the outside world. If you find that closing your eyes too relaxing or causes you to fall asleep, open-eye meditation can be especially helpful. You stay alert and engaged, practical for those times when you need to remain aware, as in walking or sitting meditation in public.

Why meditate with eyes open?

Sitting mindfully with your eyes open may also helo you bring mindfulness into everyday activities. By practicing direct observation without getting lost in your thoughts, you train your mind to stay present and focused, whether you’re in a quiet space or on a busy street. Open-eye mindfulness can help you develop awareness practices that extend beyond your solo meditation session. You can infuse everyday life with a new layer of calm and awareness.
