August 29, 1857 – Abraham Lincoln used the moon to defend a client. A witness said the moon was so bright that they could see who the murderer was. Lincoln used an almanac to show that the moon on the date of a murder would not have emitted enough light for the witness to see anyone clearly. It came to be one of his most famous cases. He was a self taught lawyer using law books and working at law offices. He was known for his honesty, integrity and effective communication skills. His legal career began in the early 1830s in Springfield, Illinois.

Being a lawyer can be extremely stressful. Lincoln seemed to be calm under pressure. If he was feeling stressed out, he could perform this boxed breathing exercise.
